Grounds

The gardens that surround the holiday cottage have a gas-fired BBQ and seating area with a sun umbrella, wooden table and four chairs. This is ideal for those sunny days when you want to dine al fresco or a place to relax at the beginning or end of the day with your morning brew or a stronger evening tipple. Guernsey, literally translated from the Norse, ‘Green Isle’, has a climate perfect for all things green. There are many beautiful local gardens, and the Dower is no exception. It has an abundance of flowers and bushes which flourish in the micro-climate of the granite walled garden.

There is also a heated outdoor swimming pool available from May to September which is shared with the property, and often reaches temperatures in the high twenties degrees Celsius in the height of summer. The mature gardens surrounding the swimming pool have an abundance of colour in the summer, and are often opened to the public as an ‘open garden’ for floral guernsey.

We also have a number of raised vegetable beds and a large wooden vine house where we grow a range of organic fruit and vegetables. This includes vine ripened tomatoes, strawberries, runner beans, peas, potatoes, courgettes, rocket, apples, greengages and local ‘cannonhall’ white grapes. These often grow to the size of a small apricot and are delicious! We share fruit and veg in season with our guests throughout the summer months.

There are also 2 acres of fields that surround the property, which lead down to St Peters valley and a number of ‘routes tranquilles. These link to a number of beautiful walks (and a ‘smuggler’s path!) leading to the rugged west coast cliffs.
